Don't replace it yet
A warm refrigerator or a washer full of water feels like the end of the road, but many of these problems come down to one worn or failed part: an evaporator fan, a defrost heater, a drain pump, an igniter, a belt. Fixing that part is usually faster, cheaper and less wasteful than buying, delivering and installing a new appliance. If a repair is not worth it, because the unit is very old, parts are no longer made, or the repair would cost close to a new one, we will tell you that too.
How a repair visit works
- Call (346) 307-4075. Describe the symptoms and, if you can, share the brand, model number and any error code. That helps us come prepared.
- We schedule a visit at a time that works for you and come to your home. We are a service-area business, so there is no shop to haul your appliance to.
- Diagnosis and a clear price. We test the appliance, explain what failed and why, and quote the repair before any work begins.
- Repair and test. If you approve, we make the repair and run the appliance to confirm it works. If a part has to be ordered, we tell you and set up the return visit.
- Tips to prevent a repeat. Many failures have a cause, like a clogged filter, a restricted dryer vent or hard-water scale. We will show you what to watch for.
Why Houston is hard on appliances
Appliances in the Houston area deal with conditions that manufacturers' test labs don't always reflect. Knowing them helps you prevent many of the calls we get.
Heat and humidity
Long, hot summers make refrigerators and freezers work harder, especially second refrigerators in garages. Dusty condenser coils make it worse. High humidity also means front-load washers trap moisture, which leads to musty smells and mildew around the door gasket if the door stays closed between loads.
Hard water
Much of greater Houston, including Katy and Fort Bend County, has moderately hard to hard water. Minerals leave scale in dishwasher spray arms, ice maker valves and washer components, which slowly cuts performance. Rinse aid, regular filter cleaning and replacing refrigerator water filters on schedule all help. Your water utility's annual water quality report lists your local hardness.
Storms and power surges
Tropical storms, hurricanes like Beryl in 2024, and summer thunderstorms bring outages and surges when power comes back. Electronic control boards in modern appliances are sensitive to this. During an outage, unplug sensitive appliances or switch them off, and consider asking a licensed electrician about whole-home surge protection. If an appliance acts strangely after the power returns, call us before it causes more damage.
