LG Washer OE Error Code
On LG washers, OE is the water outlet error: the washer can't drain the drum, or it's draining very slowly. LG's top causes are a clogged drain pump filter and a kinked or squashed drain hose, and you can check both.

What OE means on an LG washer
LG calls OE a water outlet error. On LG top-load washers, LG says the code appears when the washer hasn't been able to drain for 13 minutes. The washer stops with water still in the drum so it doesn't spin a tub full of water.
Common causes (from LG)
- A clogged drain pump filter (front-load models).
- A drain hose that's kinked or compressed, often because the washer sits too close to the wall.
- A frozen drain hose, which is rare in the Houston area but possible in a hard freeze in a garage laundry.
If those are clear, the drain pump itself or the house drain line may be the problem.
Safety: unplug the washer before opening the service cover. The water inside may be hot, so let it cool, and have towels and a shallow container ready.
Safe things to try first
- Check the drain hose. Pull the washer out and straighten any kinks. LG recommends at least 4 inches of space behind the washer and about 1 inch on each side so the hose isn't squashed.
- Clean the drain pump filter (front-loaders). Open the service cover at the bottom front with a container underneath. Pull out the small residual-water hose, remove its cap and let the water drain. Then twist the pump filter cap to remove the filter, clean it (an old toothbrush helps), reinstall the filter and hose cap, and close the cover.
- Top-loaders: run Spin Only. LG suggests pressing Power, choosing Spin Only (under Special Use on many models) and pressing Start to drain the remaining water. If it drains, run a Tub Clean cycle afterward.
- Watch the standpipe. If the washer pumps water but it backs up out of the pipe in the wall, the house drain is likely clogged, which is a plumbing issue.
When to call a technician
If the filter and hose are clear and OE keeps coming back, or you hear the pump running without water leaving, the drain pump or its connections need a look. LG's advice at that point is to have the washer serviced. That needs a technician.
