Samsung refrigerators

Ice maker frozen up or ice buildup in the fresh-food door

On many Samsung French-door models the ice maker sits in the fresh-food door, in its own insulated compartment. A common complaint is frost or a sheet of ice building up in that compartment, which jams the ice bucket, slows ice production or causes water to drip. Check that the ice bucket is pushed fully into place and the ice-maker compartment door seals properly. If ice keeps building back up after it has been thawed out, the fan, heater or seal in the ice compartment needs a technician.

Fan codes and a warm refrigerator

Samsung washers

The most common Samsung washer codes fall into four groups, each with its own guide:

• Ub / UE: unbalanced load. Rearrange the laundry and check the washer is level.
• 4C / 4E / nF: water isn't coming in. Check the taps, hoses and inlet screens.
• 5C / 5E / nd: won't drain. Clean the drain filter on front-loaders and check the hose.
• dC / dE / LO: the door or lid isn't detected as locked.

On front-loaders, a musty smell usually comes from a damp door gasket and detergent residue. Leave the door open between loads, wipe the gasket, and run the self-clean cycle as the manual suggests.

Samsung dryers

The HC or hE code means the dryer is running too hot, most often because of a clogged lint screen or a restricted vent. Our Samsung dryer HC guide covers the checks. A dryer that runs but doesn't heat can also point to a heating element, thermal fuse or, on gas models, an igniter or gas valve coil.

Samsung dishwashers and ranges

Samsung dishwashers use LC for a leak, OC for too much water, 4C for a water-supply problem and 5C for a drain problem; see Samsung dishwasher codes. On Samsung ranges, an oven that won't heat usually comes down to the bake element or igniter, a temperature sensor or the control board, and glass cooktop elements can fail one at a time.

What to check first

1. Write down the code exactly, including whether letters are capital or small.
2. Try the simple fix on the code page (filters, hoses, load balance, vent).
3. Power-cycle once: unplug or switch off the breaker for a minute. If the code comes straight back, stop and call.

When to call

Call if a code keeps returning after the basic checks, the refrigerator is warm, ice keeps building up, water is on the floor, or the dryer smells hot. After storms and outages, control boards on modern Samsung appliances can be damaged by surges; if something misbehaves once the power is back, that's worth a diagnosis.
